AP-HP calls on Enovation to digitalise the initial training of its 8,000 students.
Overview
Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) is Europe’s leading university hospital centre. It is also France’s leading training centre, with more than 8,000 paramedical students enrolled each year in initial training at its 35 training institutes, in partnership with 7 universities in the Paris region. The digitalisation of training represents a major challenge for the Centre de Formation et du Développement des Compétences (CFDC), part of the AP-HP’s Human Resources Department, which trains the paramedical professionals of tomorrow.

Digital transformation

Digital transformation
With the development of a digital training master plan and the creation of the Digital Training Centre in 2016, the AP-HP initiated its digital transformation, which began with the creation of a Digital Workspace (ENT).
Pedagogical innovation
The acculturation of the 500 trainers to online training has been accelerated thanks to the CFDC’s desire to equip itself with a genuine digital training platform, opening the way to pedagogical innovation and the creation of a space for sharing and exchanging information common to all training institutes.
A flexible LMS
Moodle was the solution of choice because of its flexibility, its interoperability with existing university systems and the power of its native teaching tools. Following the award of a contract, the AP-HP decided to entrust the provision of support and services to Enovation, a renowned Official Moodle Partner.
Solutions
Enovation and the Pôle Numérique de la Formation have joined forces to create a customised Moodle platform: Yikiforma, based on:
Moodle theme
A custom Moodle theme to suit the AP-HP structure: with the Edwiser theme. Enovation focused on the CFDC’s needs: de-siloing the training institutes by creating a common home page for all entities, creating a place for sharing best practice and exchanging ideas. In addition, each institute retains the freedom to define its pedagogical approach within Moodle, and to display it either by skill, teaching unit, etc.
Moodle and the UX
Improved UX: with a personalised interface and attractive design, Enovation has pushed back the boundaries of Moodle to offer trainers, learners and administrators a user-friendly experience tailored to each user profile.
Automated user management
Optimised user management: a plugin to facilitate the management and import of users into Moodle was developed by Enovation in compliance with data protection regulations (GDPR).
This project required proactive training and support from Enovation, with a dedicated team in place to listen to the expectations of the AP-HP. Enovation supported the CFDC on a daily basis in its digitisation process, from the initial consultation phase, the launch of pilot sites, the successive deployment phases through to the complete implementation of the solution. Hosting and maintenance of the platform were also entrusted to the technical experts at Moodle.

Results
Today, no fewer than 9,000 users are registered on the platform. Feedback from trainers and students has been immediately positive, and the ease with which the platform has been deployed and adopted is remarkable.
The CFDC also owes this success to the 90 or so digital ambassadors who have taken on the role of relaying this digitalisation within each institute by becoming local administrators of the platform. Thanks to Moodle and Enovation, the hybridisation of training made possible by Moodle has given the CFDC the freedom to innovate in terms of teaching methods. This change has been welcomed by both trainers and students, who see new opportunities: peer assessment, access to teaching resources and new interactive teaching activities. The opportunities don't stop there, as the AP-HP is now considering extending the digitisation of its training courses to include continuing education.
