Nutricia

Case Study

Nutricia

Nutricia pioneers life-saving and life-changing nutritional solutions. The Nutricia brand is part of Danone Specialized Nutrition, headquartered in the Netherlands. Nutricia is present in over 70 countries worldwide.

Together with partners from around the world, Nutricia continues to build upon their unique knowledge of nutrients and their specific roles as they continue their breakthrough in nutritional solutions that help people live longer, more joyful and healthier lives. Since 1896, they have changed lives for the better through leading-edge nutritional science and expertise.

The Challenge

There was a requirement for Nutricia training modules to be made available to over 4,000 healthcare professionals—such as carers, dietitians, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, speech and language therapists and ward managers—throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom. This training comprised topics including the management of COPD, dementia and dysphagia, and the administration of enteral feeding, tube feeding and effective measures in wound healing.

However, it was felt that the delivery of traditional, classroom-based education and training, in a consistent manner, as well as the accreditation of CPD for undertaking and completing this training, would be impractical in this context.

It was also necessary for caregiving team managers, for example, to have the ability to assign particular training modules to their team members, as appropriate, and to subsequently monitor their progress.

The Solution

In June of 2018, Nutricia engaged Enovation to help them to better accomplish their mission by:

  1. Transforming PowerPoint-based content into engaging e-learning modules.
  2. Providing an online platform upon which these modules could be made available to and undertaken by learners working in a variety of caregiving settings.

Moodle was chosen as the LMS (learning management system) best-suited to Nutricia’s needs. Since then, Enovation’s content development team has worked with Nutricia’s brand managers, strategy managers and other SMEs to develop SCORM compliant e-learning content, underpinned by the training requirements of Nutricia. The SMEs with whom Enovation’s content development team work vary depending on the topic, but a strong working relationship is always maintained.

Once developed, this e-learning content is migrated to the Moodle environment, and criteria which must be met in order for the module to be deemed complete—e.g. engagement with all training material and/or the passing of an assessment—is specified and configured. When this criteria is met, the learner is awarded with a digital certificate linked to CPD accreditation. At this point, the learner may also be presented with the option to enrol themselves on and undertake further modules related to the topic at hand.

The need of caregiving team managers to have the ability to assign training modules to and supervise the progress of their team members was met via the installation of the Nutricia group manager feature, a Moodle-based plugin (specifically developed by Enovation) which allows the manager of such a caregiving setting to, in the context of a particular e-learning module, create a group, send email invites to their team members, and then access a report which illustrates the completion status of members of their group only.

The Results

Nutricia’s Moodle LMS and e-learning content custom-built by Enovation enabled Nutricia to accomplish their mission of delivering engaging online training to their partners via:

  • The development of over ten SCORM compliant e-learning modules informed by the training needs of healthcare professionals associated with Nutricia
  • The registration at Nutricia’s Moodle LMS of over 4,000 healthcare professionals across Ireland and the United Kingdom
  • The awarding of over 4,000 digital certificates to these healthcare professionals based upon successful completion of e-learning modules at Nutricia’s Moodle LMS
