Enovation were delighted to attend this year’s MoodleMoot DACH event organised by TU Wien in Vienna, Austria. Uniting Moodle users across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, this is an open and free conference for all Moodle users, administrators, teachers, developers, and educators in the higher education environment. The Moot was composed of an amazing two-day DevCamp followed by an energetic two-day BarCamp. Moot DACH is one of the premier Moodle events hosted in Europe. This year the total number of people attending was estimated at over 400 people across both camps. 

The DevCamp was essentially a two-day hackathon for all developers, UX experts, QA professionals, but also anyone with a genuine interest in Moodle. This session focused on transforming original ideas into working code. From AI to dancing avatars to a happy birthday plugin it was all. Some key bugs were also fixed as part of the DevCamp specifically around the question bank and copying questions which is a very welcome contribution!

The second part of the Moot, the MoodleMoot BarCamp, was an ad-hoc “unconference”. The BarCamp began with participants pitching their talks. This allowed the organiser to determine the popularity of the talk and to decide where to host it. One of the stand out sessions was delivered by Julie Njoki Mumbi from GIZ, an Enovation client, who discussed the translation efforts using AI on the atingi project, and subsequently facilitated an informative session on how to translate learning content to less mainstream languages in a cost-effective manner. This session really highlighted how powerful the atingi platform is, as it seeks to develop skills around the world, particularly in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC).

The MootDACH24 event was testimony to the strong Moodle community in Europe that Enovation is proud to be a long-standing partner of, full of networking opportunities and the deeply engaging sessions that took place over the 4 days. We are already looking forward to attending next year’s event.

This is one of several Moot events the Enovation team will be taking part in this year, including the highly anticipated MoodleMoot Global event taking place later this year in Mexico. Attending these conferences are a great way for the Enovation team to meet face-to-face with our amazing customers from around the world.
