Continuing on the Moodle Workplace Series, last time we had multi tenancy, now we move onto dynamic rules!
So, what are dynamic rules?
Dynamic Rules in Moodle Workplace are automations that streamline your workflow to save time and increase accuracy on all those pesky and recurring manual tasks.
They allow you to define and execute centralised and automated rules, using the ‘if this, then that’ conditional approach to trigger statements.
So you can have a condition that, once met, triggers an action, also referred to as ‘if, then’ statements.
What types of tasks can you delegate to your automated assistant?
- Enrolling or removing users from courses based on specific actions like completion or failure.
- Awarding certifications and badges automatically when learners meet predetermined conditions, such as achieving 80% in a course.
You can send reminders, alerts or notifications triggered by specific dates or activities. You can assign users to specific groups or learning programmes based on their profile.

How does this look in real life?
Well it can look like these real-world scenarios where you save time, automate workflows, and can even score you a coffee break!
Onboarding & induction – no more manual enrolment
Corporate training: Any new employee joining the team will be automatically enrolled in induction courses and receive a welcome email. Their manager will even get a task reminder to check in.

Aviation Maintenance: An engineer completes an aircraft maintenance module. So their certification is updated, a badge is issued, and compliance records are automatically updated.
